About SAMBA
What is SAMBA?
SAMBA is our high flying Latin dance through jungle, desert, and rainforest. The adventure will take us throughout South America in early 2011. Four balloons, five pilots and their crew will meander down the Pacific Coast of South America and back up the Atlantic Coast to bring Hot Air Ballooning to dozens of towns, villages, and cities where balloons have never been flown before.
Our venture will begin in Columbia, then rollick through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Guyana, Uruguay, Brazil and wind the trip up in Venezuela. The balloons and their crews will brave the jungles, plains, mountains, pampas, and rainforests to behold the geographical wonders of this continent. In return, we will bring the fascination of lighter than air flight to thousands for whom a balloon has only been a little bit of plastic on a string.
Carefully threading their way down the coast of South America, the crew will film and document the flights and experiences of the local people who will get to catch a glimpse of the “globos” as they fly. Many will get the chance to ride in a balloon while it is tethered in the town square or local sports field. The expedition will take many weeks as the crew and organizers bring a very unique experience to this part of the world. Not only will this be recorded on film and video, but most importantly it will indelibly etch images in the minds and hearts of our South American neighbors.
